The ASID Foundation proudly announces the five recipients of the 2010 Scholarships and Awards.
Open to both ASID members and non-members, the awards and scholarships range from monetary awards for contributions to the profession to scholarships for all levels of students and professionals.

The Yale R. Burge Competition is designed to encourage interior design students in their final year of undergraduate studies to seriously plan their portfolios.
Joel Polsky Prize:
Winner: Susan M. Winchip, LEED AP
Entry: Visual Culture in the Built Environment: A Global Perspective was written for those seeking to understand the recent history of the global built environment by engaging in a contextual analysis from a visual culture perspective.

The Joel Polsky Prize recognizes outstanding academic contributions to the discipline of interior design through literature or visual communication. Judges said they were unaware of another book that allows the reader to compare and contrast architecture, interiors, furniture, and decorative arts during the 19th century to the present.
Joel Polsky Academic Achievement Award
Winner: Liliana Custy, Allied Member ASID
Entry: “Transdisciplinary Teams and Aging in Place Design; The Interior Designer's Role.” This study examines factors influencing participatory research team effectiveness in aging in place design.

The Joel Polsky Academic Achievement Award is given annually by the ASID Foundation to recognize an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student’s interior design research or thesis project.
Irene Winifred Eno Grant
Winner: Michelle Kiese, Student Member ASID
Entry: Delridge Neighborhood Development Association (DNDA) is partnering with King County Food and Fitness initiative, to bring healthier lifestyle options to residents living in low-income areas. DNDA is working with existing corner markets in the Delridge area to redesign the interior spaces of the stores to reflect a healthy environment.

The Irene Winifred Eno Grant provides financial assistance to individuals or groups engaged in the creation of an educational program(s) or an interior design research project dedicated to health, safety and welfare.
Dora Brahms Award
Winner: Clarissa Carr, Student Member ASID, University of Florida
Entry: Carr documented the interiors of the Seneca Boston-Florence Higginbotham House, which is operated by the Museum of African American History in Boston. The house is significant for the role it played as a center for African American culture on Nantucket and its intact interior architectural features.

Dora Brahms Award is open biennially to educational institutions on behalf of their students in historic preservation and/or restoration studies, to encourage and support the advancement of professional activities in historic preservation and/or restoration.
